Materials
- Collection of loose items (buttons, socks, rocks, erasers, clips, etc…)
- Flat surface

Preparation
- Collect loose items and place them on a flat surface.
- Create and model an AB pattern.
- Guide the learner to extend the pattern.
- Repeat the process.
- Once the learner is successful in extending patterns, encourage the learner to create a pattern with available materials.
Extensions:
Find and share with a family member a pattern found in the house or outside.
Discuss what makes it a pattern: colours, size, movement, inside, outside.
