Materials

  • Variety of coloured paper, coloured cloth or jars
  • Assortment of household items in corresponding colours

Preparation

  • Find a clear space on floor or table to spread out paper, cloth or jars.
  • Gather items together in a randomized pile near the paper, cloth or jars for sorting.
  • Matching can be done with both identical and non-identical items.

Verbal Prompts

First, let’s name the colours.
Next, look at the [item] and put it on the matching colour.
Then, look at the [item] and put it on the matching colour.
Then, keep going with all the other items.
All the items are on the colours, “finished.”
Time to put the activity away.
